Fwd: URJA-09 (TISS Annual QUIZ)

THE LITERARY CLUB OF T.I.S.S PRESENTS
URJA-09
The Annual General quiz contest.

The quiz is open to all students of TISS.
Each team consists of 2 members (equal representation from both sexes will be appreciated)
A written preliminary round will be followed by the finals (6 teams)
Venue:Conference Hall
Time:5.30 PM
Date: 22/7/2007

It is promised that the quiz will be of very high 'intellectual quality' and you will be left grappling with low self-esteem at the end of it. Researchers at NASA and double doctorates from MIT have failed to clear the preliminary round in a dry run conducted yesterday. However, you may try your luck as exciting prizes are waiting to be won, with loads of mindless fun all the way. The blokes who masterminded the quiz contest are rumored to be lurking around in the lush green environs of TISS.

"Megh Mudra"

Come let’s take a peek-a-boo at a recent event which occurred at TISS. It’s called the Megh Mudra, a festival to impress the Rain-Gods. Mumbai has already been blessed with rains this year (and a plenty of it, so much so that Mumbai can just as well is like Venice now, if not Shanghai!!), never the less, the festival was fun.

I never thought TISSians could dance, let alone the doctors at TISS. Well TISSians have this knack of proving people wrong. So the students of SHSS jumped at the opportunity to show off their dancing skills and rock on the dance floor…… what if the stage was a basket ball court?????? That was the idea of the festival………. calling the Rain-Gods.

Don’t underestimate doctors, as the two musicians of the class,Kamlesh(Vocals) and Lal(Guitar) also presented a song… (Tum ho toh gata hai dil, tum nahin to chain kahan)...expressing aptly the love to the rain after the loooooonnng summer here. And then some of us also went to the extent of dancing on dekha Jo tujhe yaar, dil mein baji guitar…..he he…

And that’s not all; the jam session extracted the hooligans in us in the true sense…. What fun it was dancing in the open!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do keep urselves updated on the events at TISS. Bye!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Friends...its been a long day and much as i am tempted to paint a picture of being an untiring Samson,i must admit i am dog tired...its Sandeep's and Nikisha's birthday today....there was a particularly messy Cake cutting at Witching Hour Yesterday.People i considered the future of India's Intellectual, educated, tolerant and civilised society suddenly morphed into blood thirsty Barbarians...Sandeep was beaten to a pulp, the cakes were massacred as people tried to outdo each other at what seemed to be a medieval practice of smothering each other with cake...and general mayhem prevailed...............................but what the hell, everyone wanted it that way,and as is the case in TISS and India, the will of the people prevailed.I had to use all my powers of persuasion,a lot of running away from a cake covered Nikisha, and some heavy duty vibrating of the vocal cords to keep myself from getting "Caked" by people whom i considered Friends...;-)...Srinivasan still managed to get a swipe in...but i ensured there was no more damage...I wish them both a Happy birthday and a long healthy life....personally,my birthdays just remind me that i am growing Older...

Tomorrow is our "Freshers Day"...where the Seniors toast the Juniors...I am sure its gonna be a blast...and cant wait for it...As you can see below,we have been given a Poster of Invitation and the theme is"TWINS" or Judwaa..i.e.we have to come in pairs..with something in common...should be interesting....

Here's an anecdote...Dr.X was teaching us How "Cost" affects production or some such thing...but he was repeatedly pronouncing "cost" as "Caste"....now,we are in an institute of Social Sciences...and a mate was particularly perplexed about how "Caste" could affect production..this was a vexing issue indeed...so he boomed.."Sir...What does "Caste" have anything to do with production..????.."...Poor Prof X had some explaining to do...ha ha ha ha ....

Our first month at TISS

Hello everyone, its gr8 to have another platform to interact wid each other. In the short while tht we ve been here, TISS has shown us so many of its colours. Starting wid d orientation and the innovative wave making session to the enlightening poster competition. Each of these activities helped us imbibe the spirit of this gr8 institute and helped us become a part of the TISS(U) culture.

Coming to our health school, the faculty, staff and seniors have all been very helpful. Due to our mentor-mentee program we got a chance to interact wid our seniors on a one-to-one basis. They patiently answered all our queries abt the course n life at tiss. MEGH MUDRA gave us an opportunity to thank our seniors. Health school did it in style with a rocking dance performance and 3 performances by our talented singers.

Another gr8 thing abt Tiss is the democratic way in which we elected our representatives for Placement, Clairvoyance and Alumni. Our placement team has already strted gearing up by starting this blogspot and our Cllairvoyance team has organized a slogan writing n logo making competition for this years clairvoyance theme i.e Capacity building in Healthcare. If the first month is any indication, we TISSIANS are sure gonna rock for the next two years.

1450 Steps to Raigad Fort

The chances that we will be on the way to Raigad started appearing weary when Mumbai was struck by heavy rains on the day of departure.
But heavy rains were just not enough to stop us from unleashing the raw energies within.
It was a 4hr night journey, with all of us singing at full volume...yeah it was Antakshari with all the old hindi songs which made the journey even more wonderful and joyous.

The day before, i googled some info about Raigad and here is what i got -

"Raigad is a hill fortress situated in the modern day Raigad district of Maharashtra, India. The Maratha king Shivaji made the fort his capital in 1674 when he was crowned King of a Maratha Kingdom which later developed into the Maratha Empire eventually covering majority of modern day India. The fort, which rises 820 metres (2,700 ft) above sea level, is located in the Sahyadri mountain range. There are approximately 1400–1450 steps leading to the fort, though today a rope-way exists to reach the top of the fort. The fort was looted and destroyed by the British upon siege."...........But i never expected what i was about to see.

On the way the landscapes got more beautiful with every passing kilometer. Finally we arrived to village Pachad at the foot hills of Fort Raigad, beyond which we had to continue the journey by steps.
Each step we walked up, brought about a view laden with natural beauty, fresh water springs, flourishing green landscape and picturesque vistas.

Each of the 1450 steps to the Raigad were 1450 mesmerizing moments i will always cherish all my life. And many thanks to Srinivasan, his DSLR cam and his photographic skills because of which we were able to capture all those moments. This trip marks the beginning of formation of bonds between all of us here at TISS.

And about "Killing the Tiger Story" mentioned in previous post by Rajesh, was a PJ. I would like to say that though i didnt kill a tiger but i definitely shot a Chameleon ....... :)

Clairvoyance '09 Update

From: TISS Clairvoyance <clairvoyance09@gmail.com>

Hi all,
This is to give the whole school an update of Clairvoyance'09. We had a meeting with Dr Yesudian about the theme for Clairvoyance and "CAPACITY BUILDING IN HEALTHCARE" has been approved as the main overarching theme. Accordingly we have decided this theme would be taken up for Clairoyance'09.For the same purpose we have kept a small competition with a cash prize open to both the Senior and Junior batches.
1) To give the theme "CAPACITY BUILDING IN HEALTHCARE" a new dimension and put it in better words. Also to suggest a slogan with the Theme.
2) To design a proper LOGO for this Clairvoyance which would be used with all Clairvoyance Official documentations.
All the entries have to be sent before 14th of July(23:59) to the above email-id for both the juniors and seniors. For both the competitions the cash prize would be Rs. 500/-. The results would be declared on 17th of July.
Thanking you.
Team Clairvoyance.

WE ARE SHSS..

Hello People...
It is with great pride that I,on behalf of all my Tissian friends in SHSS,write the first post for this blog of the '09 batch of SHSS..
It has been three weeks and a bit since we have been here, and its been a great experience so far...We had heard a lot about this Unique place, but as with most other things in life, its only after being here and experiencing it first hand have we got some kind of an idea about how different this place actually is.
The credit for the birth of this blog goes entirely to my roomie and friend, the great Sandeep Moolchandani, who felt the acute need for such a forum...
You will be hearing a lot from us...about our experiences and (mis)adventures...we believe half of management and administration is learnt outside the classroom...and we will try to constantly share the latest...
Already we have had a Trek to Raigad where we trotted our stuff around the centuries old [ i think:-) ] fort, got drenched under the waterfalls and escaped from the jaws of death when Sandeep killed a tiger with his bare hands...(really)....all will be revealed in a forthcoming post from Tipu sultan himself.....
We had the RAIN FESTIVAL--"MEGHA MUDRA" on the 10th,last friday......in which yours truly dared to inflict his dancing "skills" on the unsuspecting populace of TISS,in a dance which saw stalwarts of the calibre of Jaya Khushalani,Priyanka Nagdeo,Niharika Tiwari,Kavita Mosalpuria and Varsha Narendra deign to dance with the likes of myself,Sandeep,Milan,Rishubh and Amit...all through the rehearsals, i irritated everyone with my liberal doses of tips and advice...and on d day..forgot most of my steps......Waaaahhhhhh.........
Will be back with more fun and sunshine soon...take care me hearties.....:-)...

Dr Rajesh Kamath
